Jens Hegeler has joined German second division side FC Augsburg on loan from Bayer Leverkusen...
The 20-year-old defender won't just be at Augsburg until the summer, as Leverkusen have engineered an unusually loan deal which extends until the summer of 201.
"That was a strategic decision," explained Bayer Leverkusen's sports director Wolfgang Holzhäuser. "Jens Hegeler will get a lot of match practice in Augsburg, which would not be the case with us right now as a result of the strength in depth of our team."
Hegeler originally joined the 'Werkself' in 2006 from VfL Leverkusen's academy and made his Bundesliga at the beginning of last season. He remained a peripheral figure though, having managed just two substituted appearances since.
