Just hours ago, it was reported that Real Madrid president, Ramón Calderón will formally step down from his post tomorrow after being exposed for ‘robbing’ the club’s General Assembly last month. But in the latest surprise twist, it has been reported that he has, in fact, decided to stay on.
Madrid-based daily Marca revealed that in the eleventh hour on Thursday night, Calderón decided to change his mind and chose not abandon the ship in the middle of the season. Instead, he will now consider calling for emergency elections at the end of the campaign.
However, this still does not guarantee that he will stay on. There are reports that several board members have threatened to quit in a bid to force Calderón to hand in his resignation and if there are continuous pressure, the under-fire chief might still decide to leave midway through the season.
The press conference at 1000 CET on Friday is expected to go ahead and the president will make his final decision then.
