Schalke 04 general manager Andreas Müller is adamant that his club have not given up on their objectives this season despite all the problems they experienced in the first half of the campaign...
Schalke began the season with high hopes following the arrival of Fred Rutten. The ex FC Twente coach has not managed to make the Königsblauen look like title contenders, however, and their failure to make it into the group stages of the Champions League has added further pressure on the Dutch trainer.
"We had a tough first half of the season and are four to six points behind our expectations, but we still have only two points fewer than last year," pointed out Müller, who has taken even more flak than Rutten this year.
"The team is moving forward with its development and I am convinced that we will play a good second half.
"The club has high aims and we are sticking to them," he stressed.
Schalke will be desperate to start the second half of the season on a good foot when they travel to face Hannover 96 on January 31.
