The Reds' wantaway winger has drawn in yet another of the continent's heavyweights...
According to The Sun, England's favourite source of unsubstantiated gossip, AC Milan have entered the race to sign Jermaine Pennant from Liverpool.
Rafael Benitez bought the ex-Arsenal man from Birmingham City for £6.7 million two-and-a-half years ago, but despite spurts of good form - including a brilliant spell on the way to the 2007 Champions League final - he has never held down a starting spot.
Pennant rejected offers from Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City last summer, as he hoped to win a regular place on the right side of midfield. But he has barely featured at all this season, with Nabil El Zhar taking the role of Dirk Kuyt's understudy.
The 25-year-old's current contract runs until the end of the season, and it is understood that the Rossoneri want him to sign a pre-contract this month so he can switch to the San Siro for free next summer.
It is unclear whether Pennant would be interested in the move. He is still holding out for a dream switch to Real Madrid, who recently came close to signing him before talks broke down over wage demands.
Furthermore, Milan are hoping to convert David Beckham's loan spell into a permanent deal, so it unlikely they would agree to sign Pennant before trying to tie down Goldenballs.
