Guti is reported to have been unhappy at news that he would not be starting against Villarreal and El Mundo Deportivo have suggested that he then reported that he was injured to avoid sitting on the bench.

Real Madrid are set to quizz Guti about the injury that kept him out of the weekend victory over Villarreal after rumours arose that he did not want to be in the squad after learning he would not start.

Los Merengues' vice captain was said to have been unhappy with the signing of Lassana Diarrà as a direct competitor to him for a place in the team and exaggerated the knock he received in training, Barcelona-based news source El Mundo Deportivo report.

Guti was rewarded with a new long-term contract recently and Madrid are said to be disappointed with his reaction to the news that he would not play against Villarreal.

The official line was that he had suffered a muscle strain, but it has now come to light that the 32-year-old is angry that he is not considered to be first-choice in the midfield.

Diarrà's arrival has been hailed as a turning point in Madrid's season because many feel that he can bring the same stability that Claude Makélélé did before leaving in 2003.

Ramos assured the new signing that he would play for at least an hour and after it was leaked that Guti would be on the bench he reported that he had suffered an injury.

Madrid officials are set to talk to the player about his actions and attitude, according to the story, and will remind him of his duties and responsibilties as vice-captain.
