Aguirre: Valencia Deserved To Beat Atletico Madrid Empty Aguirre: Valencia Deserved To Beat Atletico Madrid

Atleti coach Javier Aguirre had no problems accepting the result on Saturday night, although he was not too pleased with his team's performance...

Javier Aguirre offered no excuses for Atletico Madrid's 1-3 loss to Valencia on Saturday night, conceding that the better side won the game.

Speaking after the game, Aguirre said, "They were more intense, had more of the ball, and were the better side because they were more motivated against a direct rival. With the score at 2-1 we had a chance to get back in the game, we comitted two errors and conceded two goals, and they deserved to win because they took advantage."

When asked whether Atletico missed the services of Maxi Rodriguez and Maniche, Aguirre simply said, "We cannot depend on the absent, and you have to always be prepared for injuries." He did acknowledge, however, that the pair were two of Atleti's most important players.

The loss continued a worrying trend for Los Rojiblancos, that has seen them earn a solitary point from their matches against the top five sides.

Aguirre admitted that it was a concern, saying, "It is worrying, and we need to reverse those results in the second half of the league, because the results among these teams is vitally important in the end."

Finally, Aguirre said that the team were looking forward to the Copa del Rey match against Barcelona on Tuesday, and that they would take the competition as seriously as the others.
