Liverpool may be eight points ahead of his men, but Sir Alex Ferguson believes Chelsea are the bigger threat.

Not for the first time this season, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted that Chelsea, and not Liverpool, are his side’s main rivals for the Premier League title this season.

Despite the Merseyside giants leading the league for most of the season, Ferguson has continually hinted that he views Chelsea as United’s major rivals, a stance that appears to have angered 'Pool boss Rafael Benitez, who let his feelings about Ferguson be well-known earlier this week.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, Ferguson made further comments that are unlikely to impress Benitez.

He said, “I'm of the opinion that it normally goes down to two teams, in the last month anyway.”

“Liverpool have had a good start and it's given them more confidence and there's more expectation on them now.

Ferguson added, “They're talking about winning the league, the supporters are talking about it and the players are talking about it so that makes a change.

“Chelsea have experience and have been our main rivals for the last five years.”

Folllowing Liverpool’s draw at Stoke City yesterday, the reigning champions are currently eight points behind the league leaders, albeit with three games in hand.

Ferguson’s men take on Chelsea today at Old Trafford, knowing that a win will move them to within a point of the Blues and within five of Liverpool, having played two games less.
